About Maryport

Maryport is on the Cumbrian coast, north of Workington and Whitehaven. It is near to, but not in, the Lake District National Park and at the south end of the Solway Firth.

The history of the town lies in it's proximity to Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish borders. A Roman supply base and attached town called Alauna was situated just north of Maryport.

The history of the town continues with a 12th century castle, the (now ruined) Netherhall Estate and a gun which was placed on the site of the castle in World War Two.
