An all American Barn Dance Band, the AV Band play old-time music from the Appalachian mountains of the American South-East: generally from Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina but also specifically from the Virginia Highlands which range across the boundaries of North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. They also dabble on the fringes of bluegrass, gospel, Southern Harmony and the melting pot of Americana found in the South East with it's influences from the mountains, flat lands of the Carolinas, swamps of Louisiana and the rural folk and blues of the Mississippi delta. The tunes climb and scramble through a variety moods and tempos with waltzes, bouncy fun tunes and lots of driving hoedowns that defy you to keep your feet still.

The band's caller will lead you through all the movements of the dance necessary for you to enjoy a fabulous event. Most of the dances are structured, easy to understand and fit nicely with the type of music that the band play.

The band play Old-time music from the South-East U.S. also known as hillbilly. Bluegrass & Southern Harmony singing.

Party"We can't thank you enough for last Sunday you delivered exactly what was asked of you and I cannot compliment you enough - Brilliant !! Not the easiest of audiences and you even had some up on their feet dancing ! You all in the background really gave the afternoon a lovely relaxed atmosphere, many thanks."
Christening celebration"We have had, to our great pleasure, the fantastic tunes of the band at two ceilidhs in recent years - what a fabulous group of musicians they are, wonderfully warm spirited, brilliant music, flexible and informal, strong and jolly ceilidh-calling, a real joy to be around and a wonderful asset to any party! We will certainly look forward to seeing them again at our next one!"
Birthday Party"The VA American Barn Dance Band were exceptional. Not only was their music just what we were looking for, they were really easy to work with and very flexible about what they did when on the day. They helped encourage people to dance, and feedback from some of our youngest guests couldn’t have been better – one little girl repeated 'dosey do!'until she fell asleep and another's goodbye was 'that was FUN!' As our adult guests said, the music wasn't just a pleasant backdrop, it was a chance to hear professional musicians in action. For me personally, dancing with our friends and family were some of the happiest moments of the party. So many thanks to all the band and their caller. We'd love to have a reason to work with them again."
