Dawlish is on the south coast of Devon, not far from Exmouth and Teignmouth. It sits at the mouth of the small river Dawlish Water.
Although the area around Dawlish was historically used for salt making, it was the increase in the fashion of the south coast at the end of the 18th century which increased it's popularity and visitor numbers.
