Originally,this ceilidh band (or Twmpath band) "happened" together in January 1993 when a string of old acquaintances had each received an invitation to the same wedding party. When this fact was realised, the idea was mooted to hold a few practices and stage a short ceilidh by way of a wedding present. The dance was a huge success, the scratch musicians were told that their sound worked a treat - and so a new band was born ! So the story goes. Yate is a medium sized town sitting to the North of Bristol. Yate is mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086, and St Mary's - the parish church - dates from Norman times. However, through to Medieval times, most of what is now Yate was covered in forest which gave way to farmland. However, in 1844 the railway station opened and started to establish Yate as a town in its own right. Into the 20th century Yate grew rapidly, partly as a commuter town for nearby Bristol. Today Yate's population is around 35,000.
