The West Midland Light OrchestraWMLO - the orchestra that keeps alive the music of the 1930s-1970s, for you to enjoy HEAR: Radio Hereford & Worcester interview with MD David Etheridge - March 2013
Who are we and what do we do?Well, we're a light orchestra with a difference. So far as we know, no other light orchestra has the same lineup or arrangements as we do. Your average light orchestra is essentially a light concert orchestra that plays light symphonic music (and does so very well, of course); but we do something different. Our lineup comprises a big band (alto, tenor and baritone saxes, trumpets, trombones, and piano, bass and drums) and adds to that a 20 piece string section, flutes, oboe, soprano sax, clarinets, bassoon and french horn for an unrivaled range of textures. All our 200+ arrangements have been written specifically for WMLO, so we play jazz standards, show tunes and songs from the golden era of songwriting in a totally individual way!
Have a look around the site for details and pics of the band in rehearsal, concert and gig details, who's who and forthcoming attractions. Naturally, if you want further details of WMLO, they're all here, and if you're interested in joining us, you'll be made more than welcome!
