More about Irish Ceilidh Bands

About Irish Ceilidh Bands who play in Leicestershire

There are many styles of Irish Ceilidh Band and you should think about whether you are wanting a band who play only specialist Irish music, or one that has a wide Irish repertoire, but can also play other musical styles for variety.

Also consider the instruments in the band’s line up. If you go to a Session in a Pub in Ireland you are likely to find a wide range of instruments being played. But some people have their own ideas of what an Irish band should be like, and there certainly are some instruments that are more traditional than others. So you may be expecting a more traditional band line up for an Irish band in Leicestershire than you would get in a Pub in Ireland.

St Patrick’s day celebration in Leicestershire

St Patrick’s day celebrations are held all over the world. Many include an Irish band, but consider what kind you are envisaging. Do you want a St Patrick’s Day Ceilidh, where guests are going to dance, usually to an instrumental band with no singer. Do you want instrumental music to listen to, as in a St Patrick’s day Irish Pub Session? Or do you want your guests to join in singing traditional Irish songs with an Irish folk singing band for your St Patricks day event?

Leicestershire Venues

If your wedding or party is in Leicestershire , this could have an influence on the style of Irish Ceilidh Band that you would be appropriate. If most of the guests at the Ceilidh are not Irish, a band that does Irish music, but can also throw in a few Scottish or American tunes and dances may give the best option. However, if the guests are mostly Irish, or members of a dance club, then the pure specialist Irish band may be more appropriate. Also remember that your guests in Leicestershire are not going to be doing River Dance style step dancing, that takes years to learn. They will be dancing in sets with a caller instructing them in easy to learn dances and perhaps including dances like ‘the Siege of Ennis’ if there are some more experienced dancers there. You will find both kinds of bands on these pages. Brows through them or if you prefer, send an enquiry specifying what you are looking for and we will email you some suggested bands.

About Leicestershire

Leicestershire, part of the North Midlands, is a county of surprisingly varied landscape. Charnwood Forest is a wild jumble of crags, rocky outcrops, open heath land and undulating ridges. There is an untamed desolation to the scenery of this once densely wooded area. The area provides fascinating and dramatic walking amongst the ancient pre-Cambrian granite outcrops and remaining oak woods. There are fine views from the tops of Beacon Hill and Bardon Hill. However, Charnwood Forest is not typical of Leicestershire's countryside. It is mostly undulating rich green grazing land on a clay soil, particularly in southern Leicestershire between Leicester and Market Harborough

Leicestershire is well served for all kinds of music. For classical music there are The Philharmonia Orchestra, Leicester Symphony Orchestra, and the internationally famous Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra - three of the larger orchestras in the county.

In May 2010 the Leicester Mercury announced that "The Academy Music Group (AMG) is to open three new venues: a 1,450-capacity O2 Academy, a 500-capacity O2 Academy 2 and a 250-capacity O2 Academy 3 in the University of Leicester. Chart-topping soul-boy Plan B is the first act announced to play the new Academy. Many more big-name surprises are promised in the coming weeks." Folk and jazz venues are also plentiful.r />
