More about Irish Ceilidh Bands

About Irish Ceilidh Bands who play in Cumbria

There are many styles of Irish Ceilidh Band and you should think about whether you are wanting a band who play only specialist Irish music, or one that has a wide Irish repertoire, but can also play other musical styles for variety.

Also consider the instruments in the band’s line up. If you go to a Session in a Pub in Ireland you are likely to find a wide range of instruments being played. But some people have their own ideas of what an Irish band should be like, and there certainly are some instruments that are more traditional than others. So you may be expecting a more traditional band line up for an Irish band in Cumbria than you would get in a Pub in Ireland.

St Patrick’s day celebration in Cumbria

St Patrick’s day celebrations are held all over the world. Many include an Irish band, but consider what kind you are envisaging. Do you want a St Patrick’s Day Ceilidh, where guests are going to dance, usually to an instrumental band with no singer. Do you want instrumental music to listen to, as in a St Patrick’s day Irish Pub Session? Or do you want your guests to join in singing traditional Irish songs with an Irish folk singing band for your St Patricks day event?

Cumbria Venues

If your wedding or party is in Cumbria , this could have an influence on the style of Irish Ceilidh Band that you would be appropriate. If most of the guests at the Ceilidh are not Irish, a band that does Irish music, but can also throw in a few Scottish or American tunes and dances may give the best option. However, if the guests are mostly Irish, or members of a dance club, then the pure specialist Irish band may be more appropriate. Also remember that your guests in Cumbria are not going to be doing River Dance style step dancing, that takes years to learn. They will be dancing in sets with a caller instructing them in easy to learn dances and perhaps including dances like ‘the Siege of Ennis’ if there are some more experienced dancers there. You will find both kinds of bands on these pages. Brows through them or if you prefer, send an enquiry specifying what you are looking for and we will email you some suggested bands.

About Cumbria

Darlington began as an Anglo-Saxon settlement on the River Skerne which is a northern tributary of the Tees. The town was later taken by the Danes and there are still many place names of Viking origin in its vicinity. Since Norman times Darlington has been a borough and the site of an important market and today it is arguably the `capital' of southern County Durham with its population of over eighty thousand much greater than that of Durham City. However, Darlington is no longer officially part of the County of Durham except in historical terms.
