More about Irish Ceilidh Bands

About Irish Ceilidh Bands who play in Central London

There are many styles of Irish Ceilidh Band and you should think about whether you are wanting a band who play only specialist Irish music, or one that has a wide Irish repertoire, but can also play other musical styles for variety.

Also consider the instruments in the band’s line up. If you go to a Session in a Pub in Ireland you are likely to find a wide range of instruments being played. But some people have their own ideas of what an Irish band should be like, and there certainly are some instruments that are more traditional than others. So you may be expecting a more traditional band line up for an Irish band in Central London than you would get in a Pub in Ireland.

St Patrick’s day celebration in Central London

St Patrick’s day celebrations are held all over the world. Many include an Irish band, but consider what kind you are envisaging. Do you want a St Patrick’s Day Ceilidh, where guests are going to dance, usually to an instrumental band with no singer. Do you want instrumental music to listen to, as in a St Patrick’s day Irish Pub Session? Or do you want your guests to join in singing traditional Irish songs with an Irish folk singing band for your St Patricks day event?

Central London Venues

If your wedding or party is in Central London , this could have an influence on the style of Irish Ceilidh Band that you would be appropriate. If most of the guests at the Ceilidh are not Irish, a band that does Irish music, but can also throw in a few Scottish or American tunes and dances may give the best option. However, if the guests are mostly Irish, or members of a dance club, then the pure specialist Irish band may be more appropriate. Also remember that your guests in Central London are not going to be doing River Dance style step dancing, that takes years to learn. They will be dancing in sets with a caller instructing them in easy to learn dances and perhaps including dances like ‘the Siege of Ennis’ if there are some more experienced dancers there. You will find both kinds of bands on these pages. Brows through them or if you prefer, send an enquiry specifying what you are looking for and we will email you some suggested bands.

About Central London

Trafalgar is the centre of visitors’ London (tube Charrng Cross.), where many great rallies and marches take placc. the new year is ushered in by tens of thousands of revellers and where Londoners congregate to celebrate anything from a football victory over Germany to the ousting of the Tories. It was once famous for having flocks of pigeons that would dive-bomb anyone with a morsel of food on their person, but their numbers have dwindled considerably since mayor Ken Livingstone banned feeding the pesky blighters.

The square was designed by John Nash in the early 19th century on the site of the King’s Mews, and is flanked by the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and the eye-catching church of St Martin-in-the-Fields. The 43.5m-high Nelson’s Column (upon which the admiral surveys his fleet of ships to the southwest) was completed in 1843 and commemorates Admiral Nelson’s victory over Napoleon off Cape Trafalgar in Spain in 1805. Three of the squares four plinths are occupied but one, which was originally intended for a statue of William IV, remained SaCafll mr moTe than 150 years — in recent years it has been used to showcase temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.

Heavy traffic has traditionally made it difficult to appreciate Tratalgar Square as a public space. However, under a splendid new scheme pushed through by the mayor, the northern flank of the square — in front of the National Gallery — has been blocked off to traffic, and a new pede.strianised plaza will be in place some time in 2003.
