More about Irish Ceilidh Bands

About Irish Ceilidh Bands who play in Berkshire

There are many styles of Irish Ceilidh Band and you should think about whether you are wanting a band who play only specialist Irish music, or one that has a wide Irish repertoire, but can also play other musical styles for variety.

Also consider the instruments in the band’s line up. If you go to a Session in a Pub in Ireland you are likely to find a wide range of instruments being played. But some people have their own ideas of what an Irish band should be like, and there certainly are some instruments that are more traditional than others. So you may be expecting a more traditional band line up for an Irish band in Berkshire than you would get in a Pub in Ireland.

St Patrick’s day celebration in Berkshire

St Patrick’s day celebrations are held all over the world. Many include an Irish band, but consider what kind you are envisaging. Do you want a St Patrick’s Day Ceilidh, where guests are going to dance, usually to an instrumental band with no singer. Do you want instrumental music to listen to, as in a St Patrick’s day Irish Pub Session? Or do you want your guests to join in singing traditional Irish songs with an Irish folk singing band for your St Patricks day event?

Berkshire Venues

If your wedding or party is in Berkshire , this could have an influence on the style of Irish Ceilidh Band that you would be appropriate. If most of the guests at the Ceilidh are not Irish, a band that does Irish music, but can also throw in a few Scottish or American tunes and dances may give the best option. However, if the guests are mostly Irish, or members of a dance club, then the pure specialist Irish band may be more appropriate. Also remember that your guests in Berkshire are not going to be doing River Dance style step dancing, that takes years to learn. They will be dancing in sets with a caller instructing them in easy to learn dances and perhaps including dances like ‘the Siege of Ennis’ if there are some more experienced dancers there. You will find both kinds of bands on these pages. Brows through them or if you prefer, send an enquiry specifying what you are looking for and we will email you some suggested bands.

About Berkshire

The twelfth and thirteenth centuries saw a dual process: The importation of feudal model of landholding and its naturalisation as a practical, working system. The pattern of feudal settlement as a result varied from one region to another, but still more so within each locality; the already heavily settled, fertile area of east Berwickshire, for example, resembled a patchwork quilt of different working arrangements.

The same centuries also saw the development of a cash economy, which was connected only indirectly to the new feudal kingship and which had as great an impart on the fabric of rural life as feudalism; surplus grain, produce and livestock might be sold in a local market, and rents were increasingly paid in cash rather than in kind. The land itself did not see a massive colonisation and extension of settlement after 1100. It was already extensively settled by 1100, shown in the striking fact that the majority of rural place-names can be traced to the period before 1250. Yet over the course of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries it would be more intensively settled and farmed than ever before.

Royal Berkshire, from Royal Windsor Castle, to Bracknell and Wallingford, favourite haunts of Dick Turpin the highwayman, a county with historic extremes whose present day musical taste ranges through classical, folk and jazz and with its proximity to London, a lively bands scene
