More about Irish Ceilidh Bands

About Irish Ceilidh Bands who play in Barnet

There are many styles of Irish Ceilidh Band and you should think about whether you are wanting a band who play only specialist Irish music, or one that has a wide Irish repertoire, but can also play other musical styles for variety.

Also consider the instruments in the band’s line up. If you go to a Session in a Pub in Ireland you are likely to find a wide range of instruments being played. But some people have their own ideas of what an Irish band should be like, and there certainly are some instruments that are more traditional than others. So you may be expecting a more traditional band line up for an Irish band in Barnet than you would get in a Pub in Ireland.

St Patrick’s day celebration in Barnet

St Patrick’s day celebrations are held all over the world. Many include an Irish band, but consider what kind you are envisaging. Do you want a St Patrick’s Day Ceilidh, where guests are going to dance, usually to an instrumental band with no singer. Do you want instrumental music to listen to, as in a St Patrick’s day Irish Pub Session? Or do you want your guests to join in singing traditional Irish songs with an Irish folk singing band for your St Patricks day event?

Barnet Venues

If your wedding or party is in Barnet , this could have an influence on the style of Irish Ceilidh Band that you would be appropriate. If most of the guests at the Ceilidh are not Irish, a band that does Irish music, but can also throw in a few Scottish or American tunes and dances may give the best option. However, if the guests are mostly Irish, or members of a dance club, then the pure specialist Irish band may be more appropriate. Also remember that your guests in Barnet are not going to be doing River Dance style step dancing, that takes years to learn. They will be dancing in sets with a caller instructing them in easy to learn dances and perhaps including dances like ‘the Siege of Ennis’ if there are some more experienced dancers there. You will find both kinds of bands on these pages. Brows through them or if you prefer, send an enquiry specifying what you are looking for and we will email you some suggested bands.

About Barnet, London

The London Borough of Barnet is one of the 32 London Boroughs created in 1965. It contains the former urban districts of Chipping Barnet and East Barnet, both previously in Hertfordshire and the urban district of Friern Barnet and boroughs of Finchley and Hendon, previously in Middlesex. So large and diverse a borough has a fascinating range of history.

Although it only became a suburb during the 20th century, it has always been influenced by its proximity to London. It is crossed by three main roads from London to the north. On the western boundary, the Edgware Road, Watling Street, or A5, is part of a major Roman route. The main medieval route was put through further east and runs through Finchley, Whetstone, Chipping Barnet and Hadley.

It was the Great North Road, or A1, but after a bypass was built in the 1920s it became the A1000. The M1, the next generation of main roads, also opened through the borough in 1966. Most of the borough is on heavy clay soil, which means that it was covered by thick forest and was not particularly attractive to early settlers. Archaeological finds of various periods have nethertheless been made in man
