Ledbury Art Society Summer Programme 2010

Welcome to this year’s Summer Programme. Once again we have made great efforts to provide an inspiring range of locations that, we hope, will motivate as many members as possible to come and enjoy these fun days. The meetings are all arranged on Tuesdays beginning at 10.00am and finishing at 4.00pm. There is a named convenor for each event who will act as the main contact point for any queries about the day including weather, directions and car sharing. Please contact the convenor if you intend to arrive later in the day.

Tuesday 18th May. Perrycroft, Malvern Hills By kind permission of Mr & Mrs Archer.

A new venue for the Society, Perrycroft is an attractive Arts & Craft house designed by the internationally famous architect C.F.A. Vosey. The house is set in lovely gardens on the western slopes of the Malvern Hills with water, wooded areas and views through specimen trees to British Camp. Leave Ledbury on the A449 turn left at the top of the Malverns (British Camp) on to the B4232 (Jubilee Drive). In 0.9 miles turn left into the first of two drives and park in the yard downhill. Friday 28th May to Monday 31st May Spring Exhibition Burgage Hall

Our Annual Exhibition is open to all paid up members and is a wonderful opportunity for the Society to showcase its work to a wider audience. Your support is vital for the success of the event so please be generous with your time in helping with all aspects of the show including exhibiting your work, helping with the staging, stewarding, catering for the preview evening, items for the sales table and clearing the show at the end.

Tuesday 22nd June Fawley Court By kind permission of Mr& Mrs Clay.

The weather gods were not kind to us last year for our first visit to this delightful venue, hopefully this year we will be more successful. Fawley Court is full of nooks and crannies with excellent architecture and fabulous gardens around ornamental ponds that at this time of year will be looking their best. Directions: From Ledbury take the A449 road to Ross. In about 5miles turn right at the crossroads signed Hereford and Howe Caple (B4224). In about 3 miles turn left at the brown sign for Howe Caple Court. Continue on this road for about 3 miles (passing the entrance to Howe Caple Court on the left) to reach Fawley Court, which is adjacent to the road on the right. Convenor Wendy Harris 01432 840964.

Tuesday 29th June Coach Trip to Cardiff Museum and Galleries

Over the last few years Cardiff has been busily reinventing itself with a series of innovative and attractive developments both in the city centre and the regenerated docklands area. The National Museum is hosting an exhibition entitled ‘Highlights of Impressionism’ for which the Society will be given a free, guided tour at 11.00 am by one of the Museum’s Fine Arts curators. The Museum has 10 galleries that house a variety of collections covering work from around the world including Italian, British, Dutch and Welsh art from 1500 to the present day. The gallery has a coffee shop and restaurant for which groups receive a 10% discount. The afternoon could be spent in exploring the splendours of Cardiff’s Castle with its romantic Victorian Gothic interiors designed by the ‘eccentric genius’ architect William Burgess. There is a regular shuttle bus service to the nearby Docklands area where a leisurely lunch can be obtained at a wide selection of eateries before exploring the lavish architecture of the new opera house with its copper roof and the Welsh Assembly Hall built from local slate and wood. If retail therapy holds its appeal the newly constructed Shopping centre is a must. The coach will leave Ledbury market Square at 9.00am and Cardiff at 4.00pm to return to Ledbury at approximately 5.30pm. The cost is £10.00 members and £12.00 non members. Entrance to the museum is free Please contact Wendy Harris 01432 840964 to secure your place.
