In the new year on 1996 this elegant Georgian playhouse became the first British theatre to be granted a licence to hold civil wedding ceremonies from its stage. The auditorium has been compared to a wedding cake ? with its tiers of ornate plasterwork, sumptuous red and gilt decoration.
