"This office is open on a full-time basis and the opening hours are from 9.00am to 4.00pm. It has a ceremony room for marriages and civil partnerships. The office is situated in the heart of historic Durham City, just a short walk through cobbled streets or along the riverbank to Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle - recognised as a World Heritage Site on the old city peninsula above the River Wear. The building is a Grade 2 listed Georgian terraced townhouse. The ceremony room is accessible via two steps. At present, due to planning restrictions, there are no other accessible facilities. The room has seating for up to 34 guests and is elegantly decorated with a rich rose pink carpet and deep pink velvet drapes. Claret upholstered chairs and beech furniture co-ordinate perfectly with the d?or and silk floral arrangements. Photographs can be taken in the beautifully manicured garden with arched trellis leading to a patio area and garden seats, which are next to the ceremony room. Appointments for birth and death registrations and taking notices for marriage and civil partnerships are available from 9.30am to 3.30pm (all appointments must be pre-booked)."
