The Austentatious English Country Dance Band ref: 4809.1

The Austentatious English Country Dance Band

A period English Country Dance Band. (Ceilidh or Barndance of the time.) Experience the civilised music & dance of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Dance to tunes with names like ‘A Trip To Highgate’, ‘The Alderman’s Hat’ & ‘The Pleasures of the Town’ played by a band typical of the period, with oboe, violin, flute/harpsichord, guitar/mandola and cello/bass.

The band's caller (who advised on music to Polanski's Tess of the D'Urbervilles, including teaching the star, Peter Firth to play the flute for the filming) - will guide you through the dances and make the evening accessible to everyone, regardless of experience. You can even dress up in period costume if you like (the ladies look lovely).

Is a whole evening of Jane Austen period dance too much for you? Possibly. So later we could move into a traditional English Barn Dance in the second half. (see the link to Ringerike, below, for other repertoire) The band have played in many of the major venues in the region, including the period Bath Pump Rooms and Bath Assembly Rooms; so very appropriate.

Testimonials

WeddingThe music was superb, perfect for the setting, and everyone has been saying what a wonderful time they had! We certainly did, especially dancing "Strip the Willow" and the 'freestyle' at the end. We appreciate all that you did and would recommend you highly to anyone. You really made the evening part memorable, for all the right reasons, and having the Jane Austen style dances in the Pump Rooms was icing on the cake. In all the photos of the dancing, everyone is smiling and that is lovely to see. So, once again, thank you all.
