About Seaham

South of Sunderland on the north east coast of England, Seaham is a harbour town. It is in the northern corner of County Durham, near the border with Tyne and Wear.

The old village of Seaham was a farming community and it was near Seaham Hall, north of where the town now lies. By 1928 there were three collieries in the town but they closed by 1992 leading to a decline in the local economy.
