Hebburn, centrally located in Tyne and Wear, is a town on the south bank of the River Tyne. It was a fishing hamlet during Saxon times, had a peel tower in the 14th century and was part of the Ellison estates from the 1600s.
The name possibly means a high burial mound, or a high place beside water.
