Quotation:

Newstead Abbey, Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire, Notts.

A beautiful historic house set in a glorious landscape of gardens and parkland within the heart of Nottinghamshire, England. Founded as a monastic house in the late twelfth century, Newstead became the seat of the Byron family in 1540. The Abbey's most famous owner, the poet Lord Byron, sold the property in 1818 to his friend Colonel Thomas Wildman. Newstead Abbey remained a private country house until 1931, when it was presented to the Nottingham Corporation for the public to enjoy. What better place to get married than the former home of a romantic poet? Newstead Abbey's Orangery is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies, and can accomodate up to 100 guests. Originally the south transept of the Priory Church, the Orangery got its name from the Byron family, who purchased the Newstead estate from Henry VIII in 1540, and converted the transept into a room for growing citrus fruits. The Orangery's ornate plaster ceiling, crystal chandelier and large windows with beautiful garden views beyond make the Orangery a delightful wedding venue.
