In the good old days, before package holidays, Britain was a popular resort for Vikings who came over in their Long Boats to rape and pillage. Apart from leaving destruction and lots of babies, they left their art - Ringerike Art. The band logo (left) is typical of the Ringerike art style and and reflects the intertwining of the Band's music. (We're a mixed up bunch of musicians!) From the photos of the band, you might have thought that some of us were around in the Viking days, but the real connection is a church at Kilpeck in Herefordshire, England, near to where the Band is based. The church (completed mid 12thC) is richly decorated with Celtic carvings clearly influenced by the Ringerike art style (10-11thC). Today, Ringerike is a district in Norway about 50km north-west of Oslo, where the locals are a friendly bunch, unlike like their ancestors. You can read about us (in Norwegian) on the Ringerike County web site at RingeriksPorten So, the Vikings from Ringerike undoubtedly had great fun raping and pillaging, and you can have fun dancing to Ringerike - (the raping and pillaging is optional!) |
