About  Tyne & Wear   

Tyne and Wear (TYR, Modern County, England) In 1974 the ancient Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria was split into the counties of Northumberland & Tyne and Wear by local government reorganization. Tyne and Wear took territory north of the River Tyne from Northumberland, and south of the river from County Durham. The main towns were Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland.
