About  St Helens   

St. Helens is situated on the Lancashire plain and the Borough stands mainly at 100-150 feet above sea level, but rises westwards towards Rainhill and Prescot with a maximum elevation of just over 275 feet. The soil is a mixture of clay, shales and marl on sandstone, still with extensive coal seams and other valuable mineral deposits.
