About  Newquay   

In 1818 Newquay consisted of 30 houses, the harbour being the focus of the community and activity. In those days, many fishermen worked as farmers out of the fishing season, much like Newquay to-day where building and other works are carried out in the Winter, out of the holiday season. Many of the larger houses around the harbour were built with fortunes made from trade on the sea.
