Towns, cities and regions, such as The Midlands have an influence on the style of music, whether it is the 'English Countryside' feel of Vaughan Williams, the strength of Elgar's Victorian Malvern, or the skirl of Northumbrian Pipe tune.
About The Midlands
Though the Midlands is not a regular tourist destination, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick aside, the region boasts few big-name sights so, in general. doesn’t suffer from the crowds that afflict the tourist magnets. It also has a reputation for consisting of dreary industrial settlements one not entirely unfounded, as a trip up the Ml on a wet and windy day will confirm. The region has traditionally been England’s manufacturing powerhouse. with the result that some deeply unattractive towns developed (the end of the Industrial Revolution didn’t mean a reversion to quaint cottages and rural idylls for most) and, frequently. what the growth of industry didn’t finish, WWII bombing polished off.
