About Melton Mowbray
Melton Mowbray (known locally as Melton) is a town in the Melton borough of Leicestershire, England. It is 15 miles (24.1 km) to the northeast of Leicester, and 18 miles (29.0 km) southeast of Nottingham. In Roman times, due to the close proximity of the Fosse Way and other important Roman roads, military centres were set up at Leicester and Lincoln; and intermediate camps were also established, for example, Six Hills on the Fosse Way. Other Roman track ways in the locality passed north of Melton along the top of the vale of Belvoir scarp; they linked Market Harborough to Belvoir, and linked the Fosse Way to Oakham and Stamford.
