About  Lowestoft   

No one's really sure where the name Lowestoft came from. Shouldn't really think many care, really, I only include it cos it's as good a place to start as any other. One theory says it dates from the Viking 'Lowe's Toft', toft being Scandinavian for homestead & Lowe being an important Viking settler in the mid 9th century.
