About  Leicester   

There was probably a Celtic settlement at Leicester before the Romans invaded Britain. It was the capital of the local Celtic tribe, the Coriletavi. The Romans invaded Britain in 43 and captured Leicestershire in 47. They built a fort at Leicester in 48. The Celtic settlement nearby prospered as the soldiers provided a market for the townspeople’s goods. About 80 the army moved on but the town flourished.
