About  Hull   

Hull is one of the principal seaports in England, and the chief town in the East Riding of the county of York. Its full and correct designation is Kingston-upon-Hull, and it is always so styled in legal, municipal, and other formal documents. But this full title is obviously too long for the present busy hurried age, and so, as the town has grown larger, it has been found convenient to make its name shorter. As a matter of fact, the real name of the town has been sunk, and the name of the little river running through it has, by common consent, become the name of the place.
