Towns, cities and regions, such as   Hampshire  have an influence on the style of music, whether it is the 'English Countryside' feel of Vaughan Williams, the strength of Elgar's Victorian Malvern, or the skirl of Northumbrian Pipe tune.

About  Hampshire   

Hampshire has the most variety and woodland of the three counties of ancient Wessex. The Test Valley is a beautiful area in north west Hampshire surrounding the busy market towns of Andover, Stockbridge and Romsey. The river Test, well known for it's superb angling and clean waters, meanders through peaceful countryside and picturesque villages. The area is very close to the city of Winchester and it's magnificent cathedral.

The naval past and present of coastal Hampshire has ensured a strong body of excellent and versatile musicians from the military band schools. All bandsmen have to be skilled not only in military music, but play several instruments to the highest standard, and developing the musical versatility to play classical music, put on ceilidhs, provide jazz bands and even end up a days performance playing in a function band.
