About  Droitwich   

Droitwich's reputation and existence is due to it being situated above large deposits of rock salt which were formed millions of years ago. Droitwich brine is so strong that each gallon yields two and a half pounds of salt. This is ten times stronger than sea water and on par with the Dead Sea. The importance of salt for the preservation of food , especially meat as well as a seasoning meant that the area has a long been a centre of trade.
