Towns, cities and regions, such as Cheadle have an influence on the style of music, whether it is the 'English Countryside' feel of Vaughan Williams, the strength of Elgar's Victorian Malvern, or the skirl of Northumbrian Pipe tune.
About Cheadle
The Saxon cross which stands in the parish church is the only surviving remains from the 11th century. The picturesque church of St Mary dates from 1520 and is as much part of village life now as it ever was.The old stone rectory built in the 12th century was pulled down just before the second world war and the post office now stands on the site. Many of the leading Manchester industrialists in Victorian times built homes for themselves in this quiet village. Abney Hall was built by the Watts family, who every year used to transport all the family and staff by train to Wales for a holiday. Agatha Christie’s sister married the last James Watt to live at Abney Hall. This is where Agatha Christie ended up when she "disappeared" and there are many references to places around Cheadle in her books.
