Towns, cities and regions, such as Bury St Edmunds have an influence on the style of music, whether it is the 'English Countryside' feel of Vaughan Williams, the strength of Elgar's Victorian Malvern, or the skirl of Northumbrian Pipe tune.
About Bury St Edmunds
Bury St Edmunds, once the capital of East Anglia, is full of history. King Edmund was martyred nearby in 869. Two mighty gates and a few fragments are all that survive of the Abbey, once one of the most powerful monasteries in England. Today's Abbey Gardens offer a peaceful refuge. The largely sixteenth century cathedral, not yet completed, is on an adjacent site. The new Manor House Museum, with its history of timekeeping, shouldn't be missed. Nearby are Ickworth Rotunda and the West Stow Anglo-Saxon village.
