Towns, cities and regions, such as   Bury  have an influence on the style of music, whether it is the 'English Countryside' feel of Vaughan Williams, the strength of Elgar's Victorian Malvern, or the skirl of Northumbrian Pipe tune.

About  Bury

The name Bury, Buri and Byri comes from the Saxon and means "a stronghold". In ancient times it is thought that the whole area was probably forest, marsh and moorland inhabited by nomadic herdsmen. Bury Castle: (Courtesy: J. Higson) Bury Castle was a medieval fortified manor house. It was built in 1469 by Sir Thomas Pilkington, lord of the manors of Pilkington and Bury and a powerful member of Lancashire's gentry. Unfortunately for Sir Thomas, and for Bury, he was on the wrong side (the one that lost) in the Wars of the Roses and as a result the castle and all his lands were taken from him.
