Towns, cities and regions, such as   Aldershot  have an influence on the style of music, whether it is the 'English Countryside' feel of Vaughan Williams, the strength of Elgar's Victorian Malvern, or the skirl of Northumbrian Pipe tune.

About  Aldershot

Aldershot is known worldwide as the 'Home of the British Army'. However it did not really become a town at all until the first military camp was set up here in 1854. Prior to the arrival of the Army, Aldershot was a small agricultural hamlet supporting a tiny population of farmers. The name ‘Aldershot’ means a wood (or copse) of alder trees. The name was first recorded as ‘aldershete’ in the 13th Century and since then at least 19 different spellings have been recorded. Incidentally, ‘shot’ meaning wood or copse, occurs in the names of many other local towns and villages.
